How did this idea for a Quest come about?

At the 2001 Christa McAuliffe Conference there were two interesting presentations; Students Making WebPages:

Creative Curriculum - Only a Click Away!  Presented by Janice Mudgett and Jimi Emery, on student created web pages.  Give the students the basics of making a webpage, cite works, digital images, copyright, etc.

And Teacher Made Web Quests:

Everything You Wanted To Know About Primary WebQuests. Presented by Dianne Thompson.  Step by step instructions on making a primary quest and software readily available.

Mrs. Mack, first grade teacher and Mrs. Blokland, school technology coordinator have pooled their areas of expertise to bring about the idea: Combine the group of high school girls working to learn HTML, web design, etc . . . they then can learn how to make the Primary Web Quests that will add to our first grade science curriculum!

But why First Grade Quest?

We find that most websites require a higher reading level or that most information is placed so deep into the web page that it is hidden from the younger student.  But by making our own informational web page, we can create pages that are age and skill appropriate.  Students spend less time looking for the site and much more time deciphering information.  We have supplied the web site but find that students will still learn the basics of using the Internet.
