U HIBERNATION

Some animals sleep, or hibernate, for part or all of the winter.  The body temperature of the animal drops and their heartbeat and breathing slow down. 

Before hibernating, these animals eat extra food which their bodies store as fat. This is used as energy during hibernation.  Some like the chipmunk, store nuts, acorns and seeds to eat later in winter if they awaken.
