Café de Colombia

This activity was originally designed by Joyce Dustin Demientieff  for  Spanish 3/4 students at a high school outside of  Fairbanks, Alaska.

It is a reading comprehension activity where students read web pages that are in Spanish in the bottom half of the screen and type their answers into a form on the upper half of the screen in English.  Using the internet, they then e-mail their answers to the teacher. The students learn a lot of agricultural and botanical vocabulary while learning about Colombian coffee. For many students, it is a compelling experience where they feel a real sense of accomplishment when they realize that they have learned things in another discipline (biology) totally through Spanish--knowledge that they didn't have in English.
