Our Blackboards are now SMART Boards!

Back in the 2001/02 school year, our MSAD71 Technology Department purchased a few SMART Boards for the elementary schools. Consolidated had their first SMART Board in the computer lab. We slowly expanded our inventory to have one in each classroom K-3. This year 08/09 Consolidated has expanded the SMART Board program into our fourth and fifth grade classrooms!!!

Below you will find some of our ever-expanding uses with our SMART Boards!

* The 4 Seasons
First grade

The study of the four seasons and the wildlife behavior with the SMART Board and our lab software, Sammy's Science House ©Edmark/Broderbund. We use the program's Acorn Pond with grade 1 to study the different seasons. Using the SMART Board with the software, after exploring the different seasons, students are asked to find the answers to the Owl's questions.

* Time

Practicing Time with the SMART Board software.
We find the SMART templates of clocks useful from Kindergarten to second grade. Using the #2 clock template with the class, students numbered the clock face and drew in the *hands to show the time instructed by the teacher. Mrs. Barrett combined the use of this program with the lab software Trudy's Time and Place House ©Edmark/Broderbund. Activities in Trudy's included The Time Twins and Calendar Clock.

*Different markers can be used to correspond with hands.
Example: red - hour hand and blue - minute hand.
