Keyboarding in the 5th Grade...

Consolidated's 5th grade students are introduced in September to the keyboarding software Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing Deluxe.  On their first usage, students log into the program and set it for a goal of *25 words per minute.
We begin each computer lab class with at the minimum, 15 minutes of keyboarding. Mavis Beacon provides the student with one-on-one keyboarding instruction and assessment. Students improve their keyboarding speed and accuracy through lessons, challenging drills, and collection of engaging, skill-building games.
When a student achieves his or her lesson's goal, their keyboarding tallies are noted by their teacher.   At the end of the school year, students shall be awarded certificates of accomplishment towards their individual goals.

Many of the 5th grade students have accomplished the prior 4th grade goal of 20 wpm.
