NWEA spring testing in the computer lab for grades 3, 4, and 5 are scheduled this month.

All students in grades 3, 4, and 5 must participate in the NWEA testing. Testing is typically done in the morning only, so it is critical that students are here on time. If a student is late and testing has begun they will need to participate in a scheduled makeup test.

Kindergarten:  Will begin to explore KidPix3 in computer lab!

In our science packet we will study sand, dirt and water this month. We will also explore Every Day Math games in the lab and in our classroom on the SmartBoard!
We will be writing stories that have a beginning, middle, and end.

First Grade:  Introduction to ponds, amphibians and reptiles.

We are working on telling time, measurement, fractions and +/- of 3 digit numbers in math and in writing we are working on our spelling, punctuation and upper/lowercase letter usage.

The Seacoast Garden Club are helping the kindergarteners plan our portico garden this month. We will learn about the different flowers to plant in the shade or to plant in the sun. Care of our garden will also be taught. Soil, roots water, insects, etc . . . all the different aspects to planting in May in Maine!
 

 

Second Grade and Multi:  This month we will study inventors and inventions.

We are excited for our special visit of author  Lynn Plourde, and are busy reading her books!

 

Third Grade:  We study simple machines in science, force, sound, work and energy, and building land yachts.  Both classes for social studies will cover Mexico and maps.

We will have our "Poetry Night" this month.

They are finishing their large biomes project in computer lab!

3rd grade May field trip is to the Portland Observatory and the Portland Museum of Art.  We will have a picnic lunch on the Promenade.  We go rain or shine, so dress accordingly.

As you know or have seen, Miss Miller's class walking the halls with their pedometers, tracking their footsteps for the "Walking Around Maine Pedometer Project" since January 08. Miss Miller has created a PhotoStory Movie here:

Grades fourth, fifth & multi 4/5 will visit the Heartwood College of Art in Kennebunk during the week of May 19th. new! Article in the Portland Press, Close to Home: A Jump Start For Art.

 

Fifth Graders and Multi Fourth/Fifth

In computer lab the 5th graders will work on their comic page for their yearbook-comic book.

The Level III Speech Contest will be held on Thursday, May 15th in Augusta. Our very own 5th grader Jack Grayden will be competing from our District!
                                Congratulations Jack!!!!

The parents/guardians of our 5th graders can attend a parent orientation at MSK this month!
