METALSMITHING
1/2 CREDIT

This course is designed for those students who have a strong interest in exploring metalsmithing. Jewelry design will be a primary focus of the class. Techniques such as soldering, forging, and bezel set stones, small wire sculptures, mobiles, stained glass, copper enameling, and lamp worked beads will be introduced. Workbench tool use and studio safety will be emphasized. Students will be expected to complete required assignments as well as independent designs. Motivation to work is a must. Materials will be provided for required assignments. Students will be expected to purchase silver and semi-precious stones for projects if they choose to work with those materials.
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Art Foundations with a grade of C or better and/or instructor’s permission
