Snacks

Our classroom has a 15 minute snack time each morning.  Later in the year we work as we eat snack.  The children should bring a healthy snack that they can eat in fifteen minutes with a nutritious drink.  We call these snacks "green light" foods and drink in our room - food and drinks that are good for you and help your bodies grow strong. You have a green light to eat these foods always. On occasion we eat " yellow light" foods, food that is ok, but maybe not the best nutritionally.  I ask the children not to eat " red light"  food (candy) or drink soda in the classroom.

My aim is to educate the children about what helps make their bodies grow and teeth stay strong.  We mark a graph with a colored marker for each healthy snack we eat.  The children have responded well to this program and have even cheered about their choices.

Once a week we hope to cook our own snack using our reading and math skills to help us!

Please let me know if your child has any allergies to food that I should be aware of.
