June
Dear
Parents,
The first graders will continue their study of reptiles and habitats and introduce the ocean. Anna's dad visited us with his lobster trap and other tools of his trade. We’ll explore a variety of ocean habitats and learn what makes a fish a fish. This will complete a yearlong look at the major animal classifications.
We have a lot happening this month! In math, we’ll be reviewing many concepts that have been introduced throughout the year and move into 2-digit addition and subtraction, missing addends, and word problems.
Our reading and writing activities will culminate with a series of Authors’ Teas the week of June 11th. (Please check and return the attached form indicating your preferred day.) Each child will read a story or poem that he/she has written. We will have half of the student reading each day. A refreshment list is attached. Please select one item to bring in.
We will tour
Kennebunkport via the In-Town Trolley,
date to be announced . Our
purpose is to deepen our appreciation for the natural resources and history of
Kennebunkport. The cost will be
$2.00. Permission slip is attached.
On Monday, June 18th, we will have our
annual field day. Please make sure
your child wears sneakers and dresses appropriately for an active, physical day
outside. Children may want to bring
water bottles, sun hats. Sunscreen
should be applied at home.
The first graders will be having an art show at Bandaloop's restaurant here in Kennebunkport, Monday, June 4th from 4:00 - 5:00. Each student has selected a piece of art to share and have created a frame for their portrait. If you would prefer your child's work or photo not be included in this show, please let us know. The children are proud of their work and we are excited to be able to exhibit it for them. Please feel free to bring relatives! Thank you to Skye's parents for hosting us! If you could bring a simple snack to share (grapes or cookies), please let your child's teacher know. Thank you.
We will send home a list of books for summer reading on the last day of school. Please look for it and use it as a guide to help you select appropriate reading material. This is very important as first graders can loose ground over the summer without practice. Reading and writing every day in fun ways maintains your child's skills.
Our volunteer program will end the week of June 4th.
We have truly appreciated all the help that you have given us this year.
You have strengthened our reading program and supported learning in
countless ways. Thank you very
much. We are convinced that the
best learning takes place when parents, teachers and students all work together
for the same goal! Thanks again for
your ongoing support.
