We use a math program called Everyday Math. You will have new expectations with homework as we will with teaching. Please keep me informed about how this is going for you and what I can do to help you with it.
Everyday Math Curriculum First Grade Expectations
The following are concepts and skills we work on in first grade. Please help us by incorporating these skills into every day living in a hands on way.
count to 100 by 2's, 5's, 10's
count objects to 1000
recognize odd and even numbers
count backwards from 10, 20, 50, 100
reads and writes four digit numbers
knows place value to 100
write numbers to 100
use tallies to record
be able to estimate
create 3 part pattern
knows square, circle, triangle, rectangle, oval, cube, sphere,
can tell time on the hour and half hour
identifies and knows value of coins and dollar (penny, nickel, dime, quarter)
can recognize simple fractions (1/2, 1/3, 1/4)
can measure to the inch or centimeter
can read bar and picto-graphs
can draw pictures or use objects to solve problems
can write equations to solve word problems
can verbally explain how the answer was arrived at
knows math facts to 20 (sums and differences)
use appropriate symbols, -, +, =,
identifies and understands concepts; inside, outside, on, between
