Lunch
Hot Lunch is a big deal for your child!!! There is much anxiety in first grade about this time of day! The following information is an attempt to reduce these worries, but please help me in supporting them through this new experience.
Each child receives a menu for the month in their red folder. The menu of the month can also be found online at the school site, http://consolidated.msad71.net . The children should decide ahead of time which lunches they will eat at school and which days they will bring their own lunch.
You may supply your child with a cold lunch or put money on an account for your child's hot lunch. Your child will tell the attendant his/her lunch choice which they have discussed with you at home each morning before leaving for school.

After collecting their trays, the children go to the salad bar to add vegetables to their meal and then continue on to the condiment table. After eating the children are expected to dump their food into garbage cans, place their tray on a cart and line up to go outside..

Each morning I will ask your child what their lunch choice is (and how they are getting home after school). If they have forgotten the lunch choices, I will remind them and have them choose one. I then record the choices and send them to the office and kitchen. The kitchen then knows how much of what to prepare for the children. We ask the children to remember their lunch choice so what is prepared will somewhat match what is selected.
While the children are eating a teacher often reads to them.
Thank you for your support with this. I would suggest that you walk your student through this process the first few Mondays of the year. It helps if you yourself are familiar with it.
