| Hola amigos, We are in a region now that has the nickname the "Spanish Switzerland." But it is also partly on the Mediterranean. We have had a lot of fun here in the Mar Menor, a salt-water lagoon which has a variety of water sports available. The landscape is quite varied. Along the rivers, there are groves of citrus fruit, olives and vines grow in the dry, arid land, and cacti and palms are found in the desert-like regions. Yesterday, we visited the Guevara Palace which was built between 1689 and 1705. It is one of the most important civil Baroque buildings in this region. In one of the outbuildings, there was a chemist shop just like it looked in 1896. Today, we saw the Peral submarine which was the first submarine built. They finished it in 1884 and then launched it in 1888. We are looking forward to seeing you. Con amor, Mario y Patricia |
