We are very fortunate to be able to communicate with third grade students from Mrs. Allen's classroom in Easton, Maine! Through talking with our pen pals, we will be learning about their community to see how much different it is from our own community in Kennebunk. What a great way to learn about communities and the state of Maine!

Score Big Points By Reading!!
Every year, we challenge our Pen Pals to a reading contest. To honor the annual basketball tournament time in February, our competition is held in the form of a basketball game held between both schools. Students keep track of the minutes they read at home throughout January and February and return these to school every Tuesday. For every 1,000 minutes the entire team reads, our class earns 2 points. If one child is able to read 300 minutes on their own, they score a 3 pointer for the team.

Classroom Visit
Mrs. Allen was able to share a piece of Aroostook County with us earlier this year. I hope that you all enjoyed the potatoes that were donated by local farmers and community members in Easton, and were able to use the recipe book that our pen pals made for us!
