_____  KITE-MAKING

We will make traditional paper and stick kites. Then we’ll paint good luck symbols and images on the kites.  Weather permitting, we’ll go outside to test fly our creations.

_____  JAPANESE ART

In Japanese Art Club, we’ll express ourselves using ancient and modern Japanese art techniques. Come work on  manga and daruma.  We’ll also create some traditional scrolls and murals of Japanese scenes.

_____  GARDENS & BONSAI

Japanese gardens, sometimes referred to as Zen Gardens, are special places.  Although they take on many forms, Japanese Gardens all share a calming effect on a person’s state of mind.  Perhaps Professor Takuma Tono describes it best: “A Japanese Garden is not only a place for the cultivation of trees and flowering shrubs, but one that provides secluded leisure, rest, repose, meditation, and sentimental pleasure… The Garden speaks to all the senses, not just to the mind alone.” In this session we will view samples of Japanese Gardens, study design ideas and finally, construct and maintain a miniature garden for enjoyment.

_____  JAPANESE LANDSCAPE

Use your creative and artistic talent to create a water color painting with landscapes, mountains and Japanese people. OR No particular talent in the area of Art but would like to try  a painting.  Color/paint your own Japanese picture from pictures already produced. This creation will make a lovely background to your project.
