NOTE CARDS
Lighthouse by Brandi

BACKGROUND:
Students are learning how to research a topic of their own choosing.  After filling out a KWL form, they will learn to take relevant notes from a variety of sources.Students will become aware of, and hopefully use, primary sources such as interviews, site visits, and surveys.

TASK
:
Create a minimum of 25 relevant note cards and make at least 4 source cards.
These note cards will become the basis for your outline, works cited, mock-up, and eventual pamphlet.

PROCEDURE:
1. Find at least 3 non-internet  sources to help you find answers to what you want to know.
2. Make sure you have a variety of sources (not all Internet!)

3. Try to arrange an interview or site visit.
4. Look carefully at your KWL.  The "W" column frames the questions of what you want to know.

5. Make sure each note card has a source code, page number, and heading

6. Remember that notes are always paraphrased or summarized in your own words.

7. When using a direct quotation, use "  " and include the author and page number.

8. When your cards are complete, color code all similar categories for easy organization.
