I-SEARCH DUE DATES

Our Language Arts class will be working on the I-Search Project for the next five weeks. This is a research project of personal interest  in which "field work" is performed in the process of gathering information. The I-Search project has four main components:

  • Selecting a topic that makes a difference in your life.
  • Researching the topic thoroughly. This includes using at least 3 non-internet sources.  It is highly desirable to have a primary source (interview, site visit)
  • Designing a pamphlet that synthesizes your findings.
  • Presenting your findings to the class (or small group)
  • First  brainstorm ideas for topics.  Then locate reliable resources. Bring books, Internet articles, magazines articles, etc. into class every day.  At least three of the sources should be non-internet.Then, we will design the I-Search pamphlet on our laptops. After designing and producing their pamphlets, we'll present their findings to our classes.

Most of our instructional time will be devoted to finding and citing sources, interviewing techniques, taking notes, creating outlines, writing a works cited, designing the brochure, and finally, preparing the presentation.
