Standards
Grade 8
In support of the guiding principles of Maine's
Learning Results, grade 8 teachers agree on the following quality work
standards for our students in order to develop:
Responsible and Involved
Citizens Collaborative and Quality Workers
General:
1. All outside sources must be identified
2. Work must be turned in on time. Work not turned in at the time
of collection is considered late.
3. Work must be neat
Homework:
1. Homework not turned in at the required time of
collection or up to one day late will receive 50% credit. After 24 hours, zero credit will be given. A teacher may vary
this policy and award partial credit for the assignment if a student
demonstrates extraordinary motivation during after school sessions to
complete late work. Teacher approval is mandatory for any after
schoolwork session involving late work.
2. If an absence occurs on the day an assignment is due, the
assignment must be passed in
immediately upon return to school.
3. Students absent due to long-term illness must make special
arrangements with their teachers within 48 hours of returning to school to
complete class work.
Long Term Projects:
1. Students are responsible for turning in long
term projects on time. Quality work, completed and delivered according to
each teacher's assigned timetable is key evidence of the student's ability
to
meet Learning Results standards. The impact upon the grade or assessment
of long-term
projects turned in late is at the individual discretion of each teacher
due to the uniqueness of each
project and the standards it is designed to reflect.
2. Parents are urged to drop off long-term projects on any due
dates their child is absent from
school.
Absent from Class:
1. Students who miss a class or a test must meet with the
teacher involved and make arrange-
ments within 48 hours to complete missed work. Failure to
do so will involve loss of credit for
the missed work.
2. Absences for reasons other than illness (family vacation,
trips, etc) sometimes occur and are
often unavoidable. It has been observed that such absences
often represent a challenge to a
student's academic success. Students are responsible for
work missed during these
absences and the same deadline standards, as with an
illness, are in effect.
Copying/Cheating:
1. Students are expected to do their own work. Students who
copy work or allow other students
to copy their work will receive a zero for that particular
assignment.
2. If students copy work from sources such as the Internet,
study guides or other published
material without citing the source, they will receive a
zero for that assignment.
